自分より優れた何かを持っている人間は、生まれた時点で自分とは違い、それを覆す事などどんな努力・工夫・仲間を持ってしても不可能だと嘆くのは、全ての正しい努力を尽くしてからで遅くない。

上記2例を比べると、圧倒的に単行本の訳の方がよいです。私が特に感動した赤字の部分の意味がとても良く訳されています。「只管まっすぐに道を進んで行く事」の箇所は、通訳中だったらちょっと詰まってしまうかもしれません。漫画の方は "sticking to that belief" という意訳になっています。原文と同じ単語は全く使われていませんが、その意味を簡潔にしっかり伝えているよい訳だと思います。このように文字の奴隷にならずに、その文の意図することを3Dで脳内に描いて訳するとインパクトのある訳文になります。この "sticking to that belief" という言い回しは他の場面でもいろいろ使えそうです。
反対に字幕の方は、原文を完全に理解しないまま急いで直訳したと思われる読みにくい文章になっています。発話者の意図の空気も出ていませんし、誤訳されている部分もあります。*オンラインで探した別の字幕では、他の部分は上記とほぼ同じ英訳でしたが、下線部が ”it may be a harsh road, but…”となっていました。もちろんその方が正しい訳です。とはいえ、やはりこの箇所を "harsh”一言で片づけてしまっては監督の言葉の重みが生かされません。また、字幕の訳文では、「～と信じなさい」となっていますが、原文ではそうは言っていません。原文では「～と信じることはXXすることよりもずっと辛く厳しい道ではあるけれど」と言っているのですから、これも誤訳の範囲に入ると思います。 また、この訳し方だと文節の順序（辛い道とあきらめる道）が逆になりますので、画面から聞こえる文と字幕が一致しなくなります。字幕を読んでいる人の大半は原音は聞いていないとしても。
ですから、字幕の訳文をできるだけ生かしたまま手直しするとしたら、"Believing that your strength is not limited to this and continuing on the path straight ahead of you, rather than desparing and giving up because you're not a genius, would be a lot harder way to go." という感じになるかもしれません。
